Why do we pay so much for drugs?

Here is some advice for seniors who may fall into the dreaded donut hole in Medicare Part D. Recently my wife fell into that hole. Two of her drugs for the next month went from $60 a month to over $600. These are life-saving drugs.

I finally convinced her to go online and check out the possibility of getting those drugs from Canada. It is legal to obtain drugs for your own use from Canada. Low and behold, we now pay $377 for a three-month supply of the same drugs that would have cost us $1,900 for three months at our local drug store. These are brand-name drugs, not generic.

We received the drugs by mail and checked them out. They came from the same manufacturer that the local drug store uses, and both are made in India.

What I would like to know is why we have to go through all that to get her drugs and end up getting the same drugs. Maybe our senators can look into this and maybe stop us seniors from being ripped off.
